Enjoying Winter Ataste of Winter Food in Autumn Message from the Blue Forest
 
Spring is a welcome sight after the severe winters in Aomori. It should come as no surprise that the beautiful cherry blossoms that herald its arrival, are a favorite of the Japanese people. There are many great spots to view cherry blossoms in Aomori and Cherry Festivals are held throughout the prefecture at the end of April that attract many locals and tourists. At Hirosaki Cherry Festival held in Hirosaki Park, the sight of approximately 2,600 cheery trees in bloom is breathtakingly beautiful. The park was selected as one of the 100 Best Cherry Blossom Sites in Japan, and each season hosts more than 2 million tourists from Japan and overseas. At the Kanagi Cherry Festival in Goshogawara City, the faces of people walking under the a canopy of approximately 2,200 cherry trees take on a pink hue. At the Towada City Spring Festival and Kuroishi Cherry Festival, cherry blossoms are lighted to create a world of fantasy. There are other flower viewing events, such as the Aomori Spring Festival and Onoehana-to-Ueki Festival in Hirakawa City.

Cherry Blossoms at Ashino Park
Ashino is a natural park spreading over 80 ha of land and includes a lake.2,200 cherry and 1,300 pine trees grow along the lakeside. This beautiful lake was selected as one of the 100 best scenic spots for cherry blossoms.It is where the famous Japanese writer Osamu Dazai played as a little boy, and his fans and tourists remember him by walking the road he walked, going for boat rides, and paying tribute to him at the monument erected in his honor.

   

Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival
The best cherry park in Japan with Yoshino cherry trees, weeping cherry trees and double cherry trees coloring the park. The soft fragrance of flowers floats in the air along the paths, filling the entire park with the atmosphere of blooming cherries. When night falls, the castle tower and cherry trees are lit up, and their reflection on the moat is truly mesmerizing sight.

   

Towada City Kanchogai-dori / Komakaido
168 pine trees and 157cherry trees line this 36 meter-wide street extending for 1.1 km. In 1986, the street was selected as one of 100 best streets in Japan, and in 1992, it was also selected and included in the "New One Hundred Views of Japan." The street is beautifully lit up both when the cherry blossoms come in full bloom in spring and during the Christmas holidays.
