Hachinohe Sansha Taisai Festival
Hachinohe Sansha Taisai Festival is a traditional summer festival with
290 years of history. Mikoshi portable shrines, and luxurious and magnificent
floats featuring myths and legends parade around the city.
Hachinohe Sansha Taisai Festival is the biggest summer festival in Hachinohe
City with a history of 290 years. The highlight is the parade of the portable
shrines from three local shrines such as Ogami Shrine, Shinra Shrine and
Shinmeigu, followed by 27 floats featuring myths and legends. The distinctive atmosphere produced by the gorgeous mechanical floats, children’s cheer “Ya-re Ya-re” along with the sounds of flutes and drums attract visitors.
On the days of festival eve and after festival, floats are illuminated at night which take on different looks. They are also worth viewing.
Furthermore, on the middle day of the festival, a traditional Japanese polo
match is held at Choja-san Shinra Shrine which add grace to the festival.
