The Korean actor, Lee SeoJin who has a good relation with Aomori Prefecture such
as being the one-day Aomori Governor in February 2010, revisited Aomori Prefecture
on May 24th aiming to encourage and support Aomori people affected by the massive
earthquake and set about the task of reconstruction.
Lee SeoJin inspected the situation of disaster-prevention forest along the coastline of Hachinohe-City. After being explained those disaster-prevention forest saved the
town to be affected by tsunami, He planted three black pine trees.
 Lee SeoJin said: ”I was very surprised to hear about the massive earthquake, since
I was in Aomori for work until 4 days before the 11th of March. I was willing to come
back to Aomori as soon as possible, and kept telling people to ask me whatever I
could do. I’m glad I could make it to come to Aomori for planting trees and meet
local people in Aomori. I saw some cheerfulness in people’s face. So happy to know
they were safe. I planted trees praying that such a disaster would never occur again.
I understand it is never easy, but would like to encourage people for reconstruction.
You will see better days before too long, so please cheer up and I wish you good
luck.”
Also at the apple farm in Kuroishi-City, Lee SeoJin planted an apple tree, the
prefectural symbol Aomori-Prefecture.
 Lee SeoJin also kindly said: “I hope my planting apple trees could motivate people all
over Japan to come and visit Aomori to plant trees, which would facilitate the
reconstruction and encourage the local people. Also, I promise I will come back to
Aomori in the season of apple picking. One of the great charms of Aomori is people
have warm hearts. I’m always grateful to their hospitality.”
He mentioned his mother is good at making Kimchi, and when she added
Aomori-produced apple juice in her recipe, her kimchi became even more delicious.
He said he always buys apple juice every time he visits Aomori.
Then Lee SeoJin made a courtesy visit to the Governor of Aomori Prefecture.
The Governor expressed his gratitude for Mr. Lee’s visit just like the role he played
in a TV drama, hurried up to his friend in crisis, and confirmed the bond between
Korea and Japan.
 Lee SeoJin called Aomori his second home. We deeply appreciate setting aside
time in his busy schedule to visit Aomori-Prefecture.
Starting with Lee SeoJin’s action, we are planning to organize the tour which
includes planting black pine trees, apple trees and beech trees.
